About

#ARMENIAN

Dear fellow Armenians, guests of our chat room and website,

In this section we would like to tell you a few words about #ARMENIAN, its short history of existence and our goal for the near future.

The channel was first created on September 30 1998 and was officially registered to Undernet on May 2 2001. Channel #ARMENIAN offers a place for all Armenian mIRC users to meet under one roof, giving them the opportunity to chat, discuss or debate about any issues, whether they are historical, contemporary, economical, political or total nonsense. Even in the worst case, a certain standard is maintained in what is being said in the channel, since swearing is strictly forbidden and violators of this internal regulation are silenced or banished by our channel moderators (a list of the channel rules can be found in the section ‘channel rules’)

The chronic decline of other Armenian channels due to the mismanagement of some, who have nothing more to offer and have given no chance to those who have, has made many Armenians feel disgusted and therefore the preference of joining non-Armenian channels instead. When the difference of joining and not joining a channel, while already being online on mIRC, is just a few clicks of a mouse or the pressing of a few keyboard buttons away, the decision of NOT joining shows the level of disgust and maybe even embarrassment of the opposite choice.

It was in early 2003 when we, a handful of dedicated young Armenians, decided that the evolution of the phenomenon described above should not continue and so we took action as we could stay no more in a state of apathy which may describe others but definitely not us! We made a dynamic effort in making channel #ARMENIAN a place where all Armenians would be proud to join, formed and moderated by strong and dedicated personalities. We introduced the trivial game which will soon be enriched with questions related to Armenia and anything Armenian, giving the chance of self-education for many who may lack in this field or want to expand their knowledge over it. We created ArmeniaIRC (an Armenian script)  which gives the opportunity to those wishing, to express themselves in Armenian letters, listen to online Armenian music, play chess while chatting and many other features (click here for download). Improvements of this script are also in our plans for the near future. We also created this website, which is still in its early stages, which is linked to many other Armenian websites from where a person can find almost anything. If you have any suggestions of things that you would like to be added on our website or any other comments relative to it, please do not hesitate to email us at channel_Armenian@Armenia.com . There is always room for improvement and criticism will help us to get there so we are waiting for your comments.

Of course the magnitude of the continuation of this effort will also depend on how much support we get from you guys. Seeing a response to our efforts will give us the strength to continue.

So… whenever you are connecting to the internet either to check your email or for any other reason, drop by for a few minutes from #ARMENIAN just for a “parev” and be sure that at least some of the guys hidden behind all those nicknames will appreciate that greatly J
